St. Michael's Presents... Music of Scandinavia

A beautiful concert of music of the Nordic countries will be performed April 26th, 7 pm in Chemainus BC. The concert is part of a monthly classical music series called "St. Michael's Presents..."

Performers are headed by Annette Lampson, a Danish Canadian soprano, and joined Marilyn Rummel, lever harpist from the Cowichan Valley with Norwegian roots, Ron Kilian, pianist and accompanist also from the Cowichan Valley, and Colleen Lanki, a Finnish Canadian storyteller and actor from Vancouver.

Music from composers such as Carl Nielsen and Jean Sibelius, traditional and modern folksongs, ancient texts and new works for voice, harp and piano will be performed, and stories from the epic poem collection the Kalevala will be heard by an audience that is invited to close their eyes and be transported to lands across the arctic ocean.

More information about the concert, location, tickets, etc. will be found at www.smpconcerts.ca  the website of St. Michael's Presents.

It's a small church and we hope to fill it - Tickets are $15 if purchased in advance, and $20 at the door. Email me or call 250-709-2395 for tickets

Group Classes are underway in Nanaimo

Beginner group class -  Suitable for those with even a few lessons under their belts - offered alternate Thursdays from 1:15 to 2:30.  This class is for beginners who have had an introduction to the harp, via a class or some private lessons, but are still very much beginners. We'll play lots of satisfying music, while focussing on technique.

Intermediate ensemble class - offered on the weeks between the beginner class, same time.  This class is ideally for those who are taking private lessons, or have their basic harp skills in  hand. The class will explore folks songs and modern compositions from the americas - south and north - in ensemble arrangements. Challenging parts for the experts, less difficult ones for the early intermediates.

Cost is dependant on the number of students as per Nanaimo Conservatory group lesson policy, so email me for more info.

Registration is now open for the next April Point Harp weekend. Book now - they fill up fast.

call 1-800-663-7090 to book, or get more info at www.obmg.com/learn

I must warn you that the detailed schedule is going to be changed, due to the advertising which prompted a lot of beginners to register.

So, like the last one:

This one will be for Beginner, Novice and Intermediate Harpers. There will be couple of sessions for beginners only, and plenty of challenges (and a little extra practice time) for more experienced harpers.

Cost is just $199 for 2 nights accommodation and all the instruction. It is double occupancy, (and you need to tell them your room mates name) so if you want to be matched up with a room mate, let me help.

Rental harps are available ($35) if you are new to harping and don't have your own.

Here is the detailed scheduled (see especially the 2nd page) about the Harp Retreat at April Point. If you want register, see their website here

Last fall's retreat sold out with a waiting list, so don't delay. Email me if you want more info...

April 10/09

I understand the class is full or nearly so, but they do have a waiting list, and if you're on it, it will give you first dibs on next fall's event. Let me know if you want to be on the list, in case someone has to withdraw.
